Dr. Simon Lui is currently the Chief Audio Expert of the Central Media Technology Institute, 2012 Laboratories, Huawei. Simon received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and B.Eng. in Information Engineering (minor in Music) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Simon was a Marie Curie Fellow in 2011, Visiting Assistant Professor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2012, Faculty of Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) in 2012-2017, and the Technical Director (T14) of Tencent Music in 2018-2021. His primary research interests are Music & AI.
Simon was one of the world first iOS app developers in 2008. He had 7 inventions on the iOS platform, including #1 best selling apps in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Canada iOS app store. His business story was reported by CNN international and featured on IEEE institute cover story.
Simon has over 15 years experience in the multimedia technology area, including DSP (e.g. super-resolution, noise cancellation, sound source separation), MIR (chord, pitch, onset identification, hit song prediction, song identification, query by humming), ASR (lyrics timestamp, voice age and gender identification) and TTS (singing voice synthesis, voice changer) with AI. Simon filed 34 patents, and published more than 60 papers in top tier Academic conferences and journals, supervised 5 PhD students. Simon was the Champion in the MIREX 2019 competition – audio fingerprinting track, and established the first digital music quality standard documentation in China.
Simon was also an active musician. As an award winning violinist, guitarist, erhuist, and music arranger, Simon has been in leading role of hundreds of classical, pop music concert, CD recordings, game music writing and movie soundtrack production. Simon was the concert master of the Hong Kong Youth Strings, he lead the orchestral performance at the Tamar Site after the Hong Kong Handover Ceremony on 1-July-1997. Simon was an invited beatbox guest in Eason Chan、Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng’s concert, and the Hong Kong Champion of the ICMA singing competition 2005. Simon is a member of the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong (CASH).
雷兆恒是華為中央媒體技術院的首席音頻專家。Simon於香港科技大學計算機科學系博士畢業，香港中文大學訊息工程系本科畢業(副修音樂)。曾為歐盟瑪麗居里學人(2011)，美國麻省理工學院(MIT)訪問助理教授(2012)，新加坡科技設計大學(SUTD)助理教授(2012-2017)，及騰訊音樂T14技術總監(2018-2021)。
Simon為世界上最早的iOS應用程式開發者之一，2008年起推出多個手機應用程式，曾於全球多個國家地區的蘋果網上商店分類銷量第一，其商業故事曾見於美國有線電視新聞網CNN訪問，及電機電子工程師學會IEEE Institute的封面故事。
Simon專注於研發多媒體音視頻技術，包括DSP訊號處理(如超分,降噪,聲伴分離)、MIR音樂內容理解(如和聲,鼓點,熱歌預測,聽歌識曲,哼唱識別)、ASR語音辨識(如歌詞時間戳,聲齡及性別識別)、TTS人聲合成(如歌聲合成,變聲器)、及音樂生成(自動作曲,編曲,混音)等領域的AI應用。Simon發表34項音視頻技術專利，在頂級學術期刊及會議發表逾60篇論文，並培養了5位博士生。曾帶領團隊贏得MIREX2019音頻指紋識別世界賽冠軍，以及草擬推動並落實了全中國首個數字音樂音質技術要求的全國行業標準。
Simon早年活躍於音樂製作及表演，曾任香港青年弦樂團首席小提琴兼團長，帶領樂團於1997年7月1日添馬艦基地香港回歸晚會上演出。作為小提琴、高胡及古典結他比賽得獎者，也是香港ICMA歌唱比賽全港總冠軍(2005)。曾參與流行曲唱片製作，合作歌手有方皓玟、蘇永康、傅珮嘉、王浩信等。Simon曾於劉德華、陳奕迅、鄭秀文音樂會上表演beatbox。現為香港作曲家及作詞家協會會員。
